Looking Good and Rushing This Post

While doing a hurried blog catch-up (working is a total drag), I came across this article from W Magazine's Fashion Assistant, Nora Milch, entitled "What An Intern Should Wear". While I never envisaged an unpaid career as an intern it seems that so far it is my calling, and so I was rather excited to read this article. What should I be wearing? Were extreme harem's at my local newspaper a good idea? What about the shameless display of leg in New York? Jeans at a national newspaper?

It seems that fading into the background of chic dressing is the key, rather than outlandish wardrobe choice. But, I wonder, how can you make an impression in a skinny jean and pea coat? Yes, the harem's did not a job make, but I really don't fit with the black trouser brigade; polyester trousers and a v-neck woolen jumper are not journalist material if you ask me. Each to their own though. At my interview for, um, Interview, I wore a pair of chino's, lace socks, a vest top cut to my bra line, and a clashing stripy jacket. Maybe they thought it was my British charm, or maybe they weren't at all interested in my style leaning. That said I was frequently complemented on my attire, and even garnered comment from the fashion team; surely that was the point? In the comfort of the Shecky's office I felt I could fully exert my personal taste, constantly donning sequined jackets, and short-cut playsuits; both of which helped cement my responsibility as on-site-fsahion-advisor.

In less than two weeks from now I will be headed to London to intern at InStyle for a week. A week. That is five outfits that will ultimately make or break me, I am sure of that. So while I will indeed take onboard the advice of Milch, I doubt I will completely conform to it. I am thinking of a wide-legged sheer-ish trouser to see me through, belted over a flowing blouse. My Kurt Geiger boots will hold me up all week long adding to the versatility of my Marc By Marc Jacobs crossbody bag. Going shopping this week and next so expect to see all five chosen outfits very soon, in the meantime feast on some possible contenders.

P.S. Is grey hair too much?

  1. That's an interesting article - I'm about to intern at a national television channel so it should be interesting what they expect me to wear...

  2. It's so hard to judge, but I think it's best to let your personality shine. Better to be remembered for your questionable fashion choices than not at all! Good luck with your internship :) x
