WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
Think way back to the first (and let’s be honest, better) Sex and the City movie, when Jennifer Hudson unashamedly paraded her rental Louis Vuitton. Rent the Runway offers us girls the chance to feel like a million bucks, and style a genuine red-carpet-worthy look for a mere fraction of the price. Either search by designer or occasion to find a dress and pair it with a choice of jewels that even Rachel Zoe would be envious of.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Simply choose what you want—this Mod Madness Matthew Williamson dress, perhaps? (only $200!)—rent it for whatever occasion (weddings, events, just ‘cause), and seeing as you get to keep it for four days, feel free to wear it 24/7 (I would!). Once you’re done, you just pack it back into the pre-paid mailing envelope and send away…just like Netflix, but for fashoin.
Other brownie points are awarded to the genius folks at Rent The Runway for also sending a back-up size for free, offering a second option for just $25, and affording $5 insurance so you don’t have to spend the night feeling like you are wearing your best friend’s most prized article of clothing, so spill away (kidding!)—but don’t fret if you do! All dresses are dry cleaned and those that have seen too many red-carpets (or college roommates’ weddings) are retired, so don’t worry about receiving a less than perfect dress—they all feel like you just snipped the tag off!
MY VERDICT:
Owning a piece of timeless fashion is never going to be easy for the majority of us. Buying a $2,000 dress for one night sounds crazy, especially if you are minus the bank balance of Blake Lively or Sarah Jessica Parker. If you have ever meandered through Bergdorf Goodman stroking the alarmed Herve Leger dresses (guiiiiilty!), you know what I mean. Fashion isn’t always accessible to minions like you and me, but with this fab site it can be.
MY OPINION:
The words flashing in my brain as I write this are “Christmas parties!” Holiday season will be here sooner than you can imagine, and if you have a few events that fall together, this site will be your savior. Go for the $25 second option and you’ll have two amazing designer dresses on a totally affordable budget. The website even suggests accessories to add to your order, so your look can be perfected down to the very last karat…all wrapped up together in one expensive package that actually cost you next to nothing!
