Sheckys.com

As soon as you emerge from that college apartment in a shady area or—worse yet—a dorm, and bid your Solo-cup-spilling roommates goodbye, it’s time for your first real apartment. If you need some inspiration and great advice for decorating—whether it’s your first apartment or your 10th—ApartmentTherapy.com is your one-stop shop for delectable visuals on what other people have done to their nests all over the country.

WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?

The website profiles and features apartments and their owners from New York to San Francisco, detailing not only what they’ve done but how they’ve done it. The best part is that many of the places featured are classic NY shoebox apartments, illustrating just how beautiful your space can be, even at a small size.

It’s not just envy-inducing pictures though, there is a ‘Green’ section where sustainable products and the designers who created them are discussed. You can also use the ‘Scavenger’ or ‘Classifieds’ to search for one-of-a-kind pieces, vintage wears or barely used items. The ‘Kitchen’ section even offers up recipes and new products for the foodies out there, ensuring that your freshly painted kitchen and hardwood floor goes to good use.

MY OPINION:

This is the stones and mortar version of lookbook.nu with much more to it than just being nosy. You gain a sense of what these people have done to their apartments, the love and work that have gone into it, and how to adapt something similar to your own place!

MY VERDICT:

It’s really addictive, especially if you want your apartment to be just as chic as the clothes in your wardrobe (who doesn’t?!). I am a young lady trapped in an old woman’s body, so for me browsing the vintage-inspired apartments and searching for beaten-up sofas or chairs is my favorite. Snooping around other people’s apartments is also just as fun—kinda voyeuristic, but with a good purpose! So if you’re thinking of sprucing your apartment up anytime soon, or you just want to dream, give this adorable (and did we mention easy to navigate?) site a browse.
