WC2: Mishkin's

There are few things in life that enthral me more than food. Living in London the world is your foodie oyster and since I got here almost two years ago, I have spent most of my wages on TFL, rent and food.

Mishkin's - "a kind of Jewish deli with cocktails" - is one of my favourite finds. Situated just off Covent Garden Plaza and next to the city's best gelato shop (Gelatorino) it is the perfect Sunday afternoon spot. Breaking from the mould of Russell Norman's no-reservation philosophy, booking is recommended into the night, but rock up on Sunday around 4pm and take a seat at the bar for the best experience.

I have to admit that the moustache-embellished, tattoo'd servers at Spuntino are preferable, but get over the wannabe Skins cast servers, the fact they'll undoubtedly screw-up your order and never remember your face, then you've got good food at a good price in a cool atmosphere.

The Rueben on Rye is my dish of choice always - half now, half wrapped for later - but I can also verify the mac and cheese, corndogs and daily specials as super yum. Deserts are on the whole good, however we almost always save the £6 and spend it round the corner on gelato.

Best to go on your own or with a group bigger than 2 - the squeeze into the two-seater tables makes it a bit too formal and it's hard to have a conversation while worrying that your elbow is in the face of a dotcom entrepreneur or one half of an awkward first date.

Take: everyone
Order: Maple Old Fashioned, malt milkshakes, rueben on rye and mac and cheese
Cost: around £35 minus alcohol, £8 a cocktail otherwise
